Unique Newfoundland Sayings on Republic of Doyle

In the province we definitely have a unique vocabulary all to our own.  Words and expressions we’ve grown up with have become second nature to us and rarely to we even pause when we hear words like “deadly” or “wicked” or refer to a place called “up the shore.”

But when a show like Republic of Doyle, which is based in St. John’s, is shown all across Canada (and all over the world) and features this distinct set of words some explanation is in order for people who may not be from the province.

That’s what the CBC has done in this short clip that they posted today.  The stars of the show provide some insight on how these words are worked into the show and the reaction they get from family and friends when they hear them on the show.

I also have to admit that I didn’t realize Pineapple Crush was unique to Newfoundland and Labrador.  The mainlanders don’t know what they’re missing out on!  Check out the video below.
